Sunday School

Sunday School classes meet each Sunday at 9 am. There are classes for all ages including children, teens & adults. The adult classes are listed below. If you need help choosing a class Pastor Bekah would be happy to help! Join a class today to grow in your faith and share your life in community!

CARPENTERS

This Sunday School class is for those who have recently graduated from high school or are in the early years of adulthood – around ages 18-24.
Susie Byerly, Jesse & Audrey Franck, and Joe & Donna Burkhead take turns teaching this class, and they cover a variety of topics!
NEW THIS YEAR: In June and July of 2026, we will be doing a special six-week journey with these students to help them learn what it means to be an adult in a church setting. We’ll explore common questions and challenges that present themselves to young adults as they transition out of youth group and into adult learning and ministries within the church.

MESSENGERS

This Sunday School class is for those in the general age range of late 20s to early 30s. There are a mix of singles, newlyweds, and parents of babies and toddlers in this class.
Landon & Hannah Wendel and Pastor Jonathan & Julie Crandall take turns teaching this class, and they study the discussion questions presented by the pastoral staff each week.

FOUNDATIONS

LIVING STONES

This Sunday School class is for those in the general age range of mid-40s to mid-50s. Many in this class are the parents of high school and college students – and some are starting to see their kids get married!
Mark Zurcher and Dan Herring teach this class, and they study a variety of topics that they feel the Lord leading them to dig into.

NAMELESS

Room 105 in the Adult Education Wing (1st floor)

OPEN DOOR

This class is made up of people in their 50s and many are watching their kids get married and starting their own families, and they’re in the thick of caring for their own aging parents.
Christie Beer teaches this class and they usually study a book together. Currently they are working their way through Mark Batterson’s Not Safe.
NOTE: This class does not meet formally the 2nd Sunday of each month because so many of the class members serve in kids’ ministry that Sunday.

NEW LIFE

The members of this class generally range from late 50s to 60s and are a mix of working and retired friends.
This class, taught by Dan Schafer and Laurie Mason, explores discussion questions about the previous week’s message.
Room B09 in the Adult Education Wing (basement)

DISCOVERY

This class is comprised mostly of retired people who love to fellowship and dig into the Word of God!
Taught by Arnold Hirschy, Dan Steele, Larry Tom, Michele Isch, and Dave McIntire (on a rotation), this class covers a variety of things throughout the year. Sometimes they discuss topics from ongoing sermon series, sometimes they study the people of the Bible, and sometimes they dig into other topics!

FRIENDSHIP

This Sunday School class is for our most senior-aged members! Most in this class are in their 80s or older.
Jay Carter and Dave Soldner teach this class, and they study the David C. Cook Sunday School curriculum.
NOTE: This class does not meet during the summer months.
Room 102 in the Adult Education Wing (1st floor)

CONNECTIONS

This brand-new class was formed with the intent to be an intergenerational class.
Pastor Bekah Shaffer is currently teaching it. The class has a focus on connections – both connections among those who attend and connections from the heart to Scripture. Anyone looking to better understand how to connect with the Word of God would be right at home in this group!

Elective Sunday School Classes

In addition to the regular Sunday School classes listed above, we offer various elective classes throughout the year. If you've not participated in Sunday School before, this can be a great place to start! Or, maybe you have a class that you love, but find one of these topics intriguing; feel free to participate in an elective class and then return to your regular class. All elective classes meet in room 109 in the Adult Education Wing (1st floor).

Pleasant Dale will offer four elective Sunday School classes in 2026. Anyone is welcome to attend, and the groups will look different each time! These classes offer something different from the regular pace of ongoing classes, but we do encourage people to pick no more than one or two electives per year to allow permanent classes to continue to operate with healthy participation!

The current elective class, taught by Pastor Jonathan, is called "(almost) Christian: Moving from Counterfeit Christianity to Genuine Discipleship."

Together, we will identify religious worldviews that might seem Christian, but fall short of true Christian theology, and we will explore how to embrace a deeper, authentic Christian faith. Anyone is welcome to attend!

Grace in Chaos

April 12 to May 17
taught by Carley Hower, Devan Isch, and Marah Steele
Grace in Chaos will explore Biblical hope for the hard days of motherhood. Mothers of all ages are welcome to attend.

Is Joy Even Possible?

August 9 to September 27
taught by Laurie Mason
Is Joy Even Possible? will use the book of Philippians as a guide to learn how to find joy in this chaotic and troubled world.

Marriage Class

October 11-November 22
taught by Ryan and Pastor Bekah Shaffer
This Yet-to-Be-Named Marriage Class will be open to anyone, married or hoping-to-someday-be-married to explore ways to have a healthy, thriving marriage.

Growth Groups

Growth Groups meet at different times throughout the week. There are groups for men, women, and mixed groups. If you need help choosing a group Pastor Bekah would be happy to help! Join a group to grow in your faith and share your life in community!
